Speed Gun Farce

Michael Thompson now has a criminal record. He will join the hordes of chavs and miscreants whom we law-abiding people tend to shun.

And what was his crime?

 He had the temerity to flash his headlights to warn motorists of a mobile police speed gun. My God! What a crime!

Now if there ever was any doubt that these “safety cameras” were nothing more than money making scams, they have been blown away by the actions of not only of the Police in Grimsby but by the crassness of the CPS.

When you think about it, his actions succeeded in motorist slowing down, so therefore he should have been commended, not prosecuted. But no, he was stopped and told that he was “perverting the course of justice” by an officer that was “acting like Judge Dredd” according to Mr Thompson. Now, I’ve met that type of copper as I’m sure you have. Young, with attitude. Thinks that he rules the road. Now, this is what should have happened: the Sergeant would have looked at the report, laughed out loud, thrown it in the bin where it belonged. Instead, he put the paperwork to the useless CPS who decided that it was worthwhile to waste taxpayers’ money by prosecuting this 64 year-old.

Now, I can possibly forgive the police for being overzealous; I presume that crime is so low in and around Grimsby that Humberside Police decided it would be a good use of resources to send a Wopsy to the A46 with a speed gun. Presumably the office parties in HQ had to be funded.

But this episode just shows what a complete utter waste of time and money the CPS is. Pre-CPS, the Police used to oversee their own prosecutions so they knew what they were doing, if there was sufficient evidence to prosecute, etc... But now its left to a politically-motivated government department to make these decisions.

Mind you, you’d thought that the Magistrates would have stopped all of this but instead they have fined poor Mr Thompson £175 and ordered to pay £250 costs

“Justice” system? Pah! There’s a misnomer!
