Protest and New Labour Hypocrisy

I make no secret to the fact that I loathe New Labour and everything that it stands for. The formation of that dreadful party was for one purpose and one purpose only – Power. Mr’s Blair and Brown didn’t really give a stuff for the lot of the ordinary people. Blair wanted to be remembered in history and Brown wanted to run this country. It was clear that the latter was unelectable so a despicable agreement was made in a coffee shop, whereby the charismatic Anthony Blair would be elected (after all the Conservative government was highly unpopular at the time) and after a period of time he would step down in favour of the dowdy Brown. All this was irrespective of the wishes of the British people. The problem was that the current Labour party was unelectable. The only chance of decent leadership died along with John Smith, who I believe could have been one of the best post-war Labour PMs.

So Blair and Brown set about forming New Labour, keeping the name of the party and it general basic Left Wing principles, but dumping all ideals of socialism. They went to the City and promised them the Earth and complete free reins as long as they kept a New Labour government in funds. Thus the Labour party made a deal with the banks – Ramsey McDonald would have turned in his grave.
Once in power, New Labour set about it despicable plan. Blair went about the place grinning, shaking hands and generally being nice, while Gordon Brown set about recruiting hordes of Civil and Public servants to implement and administer the reams of red-taped bureaucracy created for the express purpose to pigeon-hole, regulate, intrude and interfere in all aspect of our lives. Pretty soon, not a gathering, gala, fayre or self-help group could be held until it was ratified, certified and inspected by some official body.
All of the sudden, things that were previously run by well-meaning folks or volunteers now were taken over by public servants. Regulations were brought about which required more public and civil servants to enforce and administer. A whole generation of youngsters have been taught that mediocre is OK, excellence is unfair and that the state will look after you whatever happens.
However, while New Labour regulated our lives, no such restrictions were set on the Banks. They were allowed to gamble our hard-earned cash on high-risk investments to subsidise the New Labour economic folly.
The coalition is introducing cuts to fill the black money hole created by Brown’s “economics”. This is a very unpopular move but it has to be done. However the once proud and fiercely independent British population having been reduced to a nation of whining and wingers are now being conned by New Labour, backed by the Unions, into believing that a) there is no need for all of these cuts and, b) that it’s all the banks’ faults.
Let get this right a) Yes they are needed. There is no other way that public expenditure can be reduced, and, believe me, it needs to be reduced or Britain will end up like Greece, Ireland and now Portugal, going cap in hand to some financial institution for more money...And b) the banks were at fault only because New Labour failed to control them. For them to point the finger at financiers is pure hypocrisy.
This once great nation, united under one flag, but still with its national and regional identities, has now been reduced to a sad country with no back-bone full of people who would whine and complain rather than get off their arses and take up the challenges that arise from these difficult times.
