Apology to Amy Winehouse

I think that I owe Amy Winehouse an apology.

My opinion of her was of a drug-addled mediocre singer who gained her notoriety by bad behaviour and that overdosed death was of no surprise...

However, I decided to have a further look into her life and I have now totally changed my mind.

Amy was a very talented singer-songwriter. She had a very distinctive voice and she was more influential in the music industry than I thought, by paving the way for other, distinctive female sole artists such as Adele, Duffy and Lady Gaga.

Her downfall was in her choice of partner: Blake Fielder-Civil. Her relationship with this nobody was destructive. Unfortunately, Amy was as addicted to the man as was was to the drugs that eventually took her life.

The world is a sadder place for her passing.
