Islam Forgiveness

If there is ever a man who represent all that is good and right with humanity and, more specifically, Islam, it is Rais Bhuiyan.

He was the survivor of a shooting spree by Texan Mark Stroman, a white supremacist who went on a rampage after the 9/11 attacks.

Stroman was sentenced to death and this sentence was carried out last night. However, Mr Bhuiyan backed the campaign for clemency, despite having been blinded during the attack and despite still carrying more than 35 shotgun pellets in his face.

Mr Bhuiyan is a devout Muslim. He quotes:

"According to my faith in Islam, there is no hate, no killing. It doesn't allow anything like that. Yes, Mark Stroman did a horrible thing, and he brought a lot of pain and disaster, sufferings in my life. But in return I never hated him."

I applaud Mr Bhuiyan and wish that many more people, of all faiths, were like him. We would live in a happier and safer world
