Number Plate Knob
Registration plates are not there for decorations. They have
a practical and important role in ensuring that vehicle and driver keep within
the Law.
I’m not a fan of personalised number plates, but the
service is provided and if somebody wants to waste their money on this ridiculous
vanity then so be it.
However, the line needs to be drawn when people decide to
space out the characters of the plates to make up words. One of the stupidest
stunts is when a coloured screw is used for effect, such as making a 1 or an I
into an L. This makes the reading of the registration mark difficult to read.
There are strict rules: the typeface has to be 79mm in
height, there is a standard font and the spacing is also regulated.
So when an accountant called Graham Wildin got done by a
PCSO because the spacing between the W1 and the LDN of his personalised plate
was less than the required 33mm specified, I thought “Good on on yah, Mr PCSO”
Rather than accepting his £60 fine and replacing his plates,
Mr Wildin decided to take this to magistrates’ court where, quite rightly, he
was convicted and fined £150 with £620 cost.
This idiot then decided to take this to Crown Court and
failed again. He now plans to appeal to the High Court, saying “This is a point
of principle; I feel I have to make a stand”
What a knob!
