Flood Insurance
In 2013, the government will no longer be giving money to
insurance companies to cover part of the cost of insuring properties in “high-risk”
flood areas.
Naturally a lot of people are upset about that, not least
those who brought property in “high-risk” flood areas.
A few questions:
1)
Why where house allowed to be built on flood
plains in the first place
2)
Why would anybody want to buy such property,
especially even the most basic of surveys would have revealed the risk
3)
Why should the government, i.e. the taxpayer,
have to pay for this folly?
Flood plains are there for a reason which is to allow rivers
to flood away from populated areas. Building on them is pure folly and in fact
cause more damage as all of the excess water has to go somewhere.
OK, so we need to build housing, but please build them in
sensible places.
