Managerial Madness
So Pep Guardiola has decided to go to Bayern Munich, thus
rejecting Chelsea Chav FC’s multi-million pound offer.
Good for him. When he decided to go back into football, the
Premiership was agog with the speculation as to which club he would go to.
After all he did praise the English game and its fans, so the natural
assumption was that he was heading to these shores.
The only question remained: which club? Clearly a man of his
talents would only be interested in a “big” club, so not for him the likes of
Reading, Villa, Wigan, etc…
No, say all of the pundits, he should be going to such clubs
as Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or maybe even Arsenal. Man U was out,
Fergusson is in no hurry to go as he is enjoying his status as Teflon Don.
Liverpool are re-building and are very conscious of money. They don’t want to
give the current manager a bit more time. It is my opinion that they have
learned that the path to success doesn’t involve sacking managers every few
weeks; a lesson that some clubs have yet to learn.
Arsenal could have been a contender, but the board there
still have faith in Arsene Wenger, despite the lack of trophies.
So this leaves Chelsea. They are different reports on how
much money Guardiola was offered, but the one thing that he knew he couldn’t
get from Abranovich, is complete control, so he declined…
The Premiership’s loss is the Bundesliga gain. Good luck to
him.
What is Southampton up to? They have sacked the manager that
has returned them to top flight football and got them out of the bottom 3. They
are on a good run at the moment and the club thanks Nigel Atkins by replacing
him with an Argentinian that doesn’t speak English…
Not only does this show that there is no loyalty in football
at any level any more, but this does nothing for the national game as this
shows that clubs at all levels would bring a foreigner in rather than nurturing
home-grown talent…
