Child Benefit

I've got to get this off my chest.
I feel that this government has been pussy-footing around the subject. They maintain that it's not fair for people of a lower income to contribute, via taxation, towards Child Benefits for more affluent families.
I agree, but I will go further: I don't that it's fair that I, and people like me who have no children, should be contributing towards Child Benefit...
In fact, I believe that we should do away with Child Benefit altogether.

People choose to have children. Having made that decision, why should the taxpayer then subsidise them? Yes, there are financial responsibilities involved, but that has to be factored in when deciding to start a family.
When I choose to buy a car, I have to accept that I have to finance it by making sure that I can pay for it, it’s insurance, it’s MOT, it’s tax and it’s general running. I don’t expect the government to give me money towards this.

But wait, I hear the cry: “Oh, what about single parents?” Well what about them?
Why should we pay for the feckless and irresponsible?
If there is divorce or breakdown in long-term partnership, then child funding has to be sorted via the parties, through the courts, if needs be.
Those who are forced into single parenthood through bereavement should be able to acquire support through the usual channels...
